Fifty dollars for a full week of family dinners sounds like a challenge, but at Aldi it is very doable if you plan around cheap proteins, pantry staples and a few ingredients that show up in more than one meal. I built this week from seven recipes that are already on this site. Each one feeds four people, and when you add up the recipe costs for all seven dinners, the week comes in under $50. The total box above does that math straight from the recipe data, so it always matches what the recipe pages show.

This is not a starvation plan. There is chicken three nights, a pot of chili, a pasta night, crispy quesadillas and breakfast for dinner on Sunday, which in my house is never a hard sell. Nothing takes more than 45 minutes, and most nights are closer to 20.

How this week stays under $50

The biggest trick is overlap. Chicken thighs show up twice, so you can grab one bigger pack instead of two small ones and freeze half if Saturday is a few days off. Eggs cover the fried rice and Sunday breakfast. Lemons do double duty for the spinach and feta pasta and the sheet pan chicken. Black beans go into both the chili and the quesadillas, and cheese shows up on chili night, pasta night and quesadilla night. When ingredients repeat, nothing sits in the back of the fridge going bad, and wasted food is the most expensive thing you can buy.

The second trick is leaning on the cheap cuts. Drumsticks and boneless thighs are some of the least expensive meat in the case, and they stay juicy even if you leave them in the oven a few extra minutes while you wrangle homework. Three nights are fully meatless, built on beans, pasta and cheese, which pulls the average cost per plate way down without anybody feeling like they missed dinner.

One honest note about the math: each recipe is priced for the amount it actually uses, like two tablespoons of olive oil or one packet of seasoning. Your first trip may ring up a little higher because you are buying a whole bottle of oil, a jar of seasoning or a full bag of rice. Those leftovers carry into next week, which is why the second week of cooking this way is almost always cheaper than the first.

The seven dinners

Here is the order I like to cook them in. The chicken-heavy nights come early in the week while the meat is freshest, the slow simmering chili lands on a night with a little more time, and the fastest meals sit at the end of the week when everybody is tired. Shopping tips for a $50 Aldi week

Shop with a list and stick to it. Aldi is built for quick trips, and the center aisles are where impulse buys hide. Write the list in store order: produce first, then dairy and eggs, then meat, then pantry and frozen. You will be in and out faster, and faster usually means cheaper.

Bring your own bags and a quarter for the cart, check the weekly ad before you go, and be flexible with produce. If bell peppers or broccoli are on sale, swap them into the fried rice or the quesadillas. If chicken thighs are on special, buy two packs and freeze one for next week. The recipes are forgiving, so a sale swap almost never hurts the dinner.

Check your pantry before you shop. Rice, pasta, oil, soy sauce, taco sauce and basic spices are the items most likely to already be in your cabinet, and every one you skip lowers the receipt. If you are starting from an empty kitchen, read our guide to pantry staples that stretch into a week of dinners before your first trip.

Make it work for your family

Feeding two instead of four? Cook the full recipes anyway and pack the leftovers for lunch. Most of these reheat well, especially the chili, the fried rice and the chicken. Feeding six? Add an extra can of beans to the chili, a second pack of tortillas for the quesadillas and another cup of rice to the fried rice. Those are the cheapest ways to stretch a meal without changing the recipe.

Picky eaters are easy here too. The BBQ drumsticks, quesadillas and breakfast for dinner are kid favorites, and you can leave the feta off one side of the pasta for anyone who is not a fan.

If you would rather have a plan built around this week's actual Aldi sale prices near you, the planner on our home page does exactly that in about thirty seconds. And if you have a little more room in the budget, our $75 week guide shows how to add more variety without losing control of the total.

Prices vary by store and change week to week, so treat every number here as a close estimate and check the shelf price before you check out.
